I know its comon to be having issues right, heard i just completed my nitrogen cycle? unsure about that. first tank. wondering when live rock is stable to give to my buddy.. im curing 45lbs for his 1year old reef. skimmer is running and not pulling thick enough for my liking but working. i really want to get a CUC but dont want to give him half my crew when i give him his rock. any help is great thanks.

The brown diatoms are a normal part of the cycle. I would hold off until it is done. I can remember pulling my hair out thinking my tank was doomed but it goes from covered with diatoms to zero diatoms over night. So give it a couple more weeks and you should be good to hand over the rock and get your CUC

One of the site sponsors here specializes in CUC's and are a total class act in that regard. Many people on this site can speak to that fact.

Take a look at ReefCleaners.org | Clean Up Crews and Macro Algae - Home - your buddy might find it useful as well.

Hey - why isn't your buddy a member of this site?
    *grin*

best of luck with the rock curing!

hmmm, i never had a diatom bloom BUT i had a little browning recently after adding a new fish to the nano...got ONE scarlet hermit...and it took care of everything over night...lol and i have YET to see any browning :) a worthwile investment i'd say. If your just waiting for the cycle to finish then time is the only fix , good luck and happy reefing! :)
