    hey guys,
so i am planning on getting a nano and i want to have 2 clowns because lets face it, they are the coolest fish. i have a couple of clowns and i have read a lot of things about them doing "the dance" lol, if i have a 12 nano and they decide to sing barry white to each other, what would happen? the tank is too small to have that many fish around, would i be able to take them out put them in a different tank and try to take them to lfs? would the fish mate even if the tank is small?

Sure, a 12 gallon is more then enough space to keep a pair of Ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) or false Percula clownfish.

Start with a pair of small juveniles...and nature will take its course.

Guaranteed you will see the "clown shimmy" eventually...and some egg laying not long after.

Percs in my 12 gallon nanocube:

Other varieties, such as Maroons, get a bit larger and would not be as happy in smaller space.

    Good luck.

Post some pics when you get them.

Thanks, no these that you have pics of are actually the ones that i want, what did you do with the eggs that hatched?, is a 12 gal big enough for an anemone?

No on the Anemone, but those clowns will readily host a frogspawn, or a larger Hairy mushroom like mine do, which both can be kept in a Nano, these pictures are from my 16g and 20g Nanos.

they won't hatch, if they do they'll get eaten by the tank inhabitants or run through the filtration system

normally the cleanup crew will eat them though, free super high protein food for the tank is the way a lot of us look at it.

Clowns, goby's and a few other of the popular fish all breed a lot

They can and will host in anything, frogspawn, xenia, green star polyps, whatever they happen to rub up against and like. it wouldnt be advisable to get a BTA but there may be some other type of anenome that will work in that smaller size tank, i know i have a 24g with rose bta and it takes up a large portion of the tank itself, once my 75 is up and running it's making the trip over to it

also, there is never any guarantee that the clowns will host in the anemone (or other invert) you get them (esp if they are tank raised). It may depend completely upon the fish. I got an anemone for my false percs and they could care less about it being there. Instead they host in a piece of rock. Go figure :p
