Most fans are powered by the main power supply & others onto the motherboard. I have seen some that are on a card & plug right into the slot on the motherboard as well. I'd try TigerDirect.com - Computers, Computer Parts, Computer Components, Netbooks & Electronics I have ordered from them for years. Fair priced equipment & have a vast amount of it.

Also, use EXTREME caution when playing with heatsinks & heat pastes. Most all on GPU are mounted permanently & are not designed to be tampered with. Only a tech should if even possible attempt this. Inexpensive video card are throw aways. I wouldn't even waste the time. Not to mention of running the risk of damaging your computer over it.

Heatsink pastes are VERY conductive to heat & electricity. I have see too many people thinking more is better & forget that there is an oil in the paste. What does oil do when it heats up, it spreads & travels on the heated surface. End result, shorting out what it was inteaded to protect.

This happens to a CPU on the motherboard, throw out the motherboard. There is no way of removing out of the socket.

Use about the size of a grain of rice or even less. Like CJ said...you don't need much.

Beyond that, if you have hesitation and touch the grain of paste with the heatsink and pull off, you could have problems from air being caught in the paste. Also, too much in general is a problem; the paste isn't nearly as conductive to heat as the copper on a heatsink is, so you can end up with a CPU/GPU that's much hotter than it would be with properly applied paste.

I imagine you're talking about getting the paste into the array of pins/LGA of the motherboard?

    *EDIT:
Forgot to mention, the main conductivity of thermal pastes typically does not come from the oil itself, as they use oils with low conductivity. It's because of the metals that are suspended in the oil, in a similar fashion to water.

What makes you think your GPU is running hot? I've checked out this thread and your other thread. Based on all of my experience with hardware it sounds like you're GPU has corrupted memory in it. Heat of your GFX card is normally determined by the brand and model. Mine idles around 50C and peaks at about 85-89C, it runs hot. I've never had a problem with it and have had it since '06 or so.

What I would do, is get a new card and replace your GPU. If you go the route of cooling fans and all that other BS you're not really going to be addressing the problem and spending more money than the headache is worth. Computer parts are cheap enough where you can just take one out, and put a new one in at this point so why not do that?

    my 2 cents

It could be that as the card heats up, it's losing contact on a solder joint.
