So after months of waiting for our ammonia to go down it finally happened, and now we have two clown fish. I went to feed them with some frozen food recommended by LFS. I cut the amount recommended off one of the cubes, then defrosted it in some tank water in a separate cup and placed it in the tank. A lot of it appeared to sink before the fish ate it and some of it appeared to be too big for them to eat it, like they would go to eat it and then they would spit it out. I'm wondering if they are sufficiently fed or perhaps we should mash the food up more before we put it in.

    Thoughts ?

Don't put a lot in at once. Put in just enough for them to eat before it goes everywhere and then add a little more after they eat that. Sometimes they can be picky so if they are eating the food and then spitting it back out, it's just them deciding they may not like that piece. As long as they aren't doing this to every piece of food then you have nothing to worry about. What brand of food are you using? I prefer to use San Francisco Bay Brand Marine Cuisine. It really seems to brighten up the colors of my clowns and is a great mixture of different meaty foods.

I squirt the food in with a feeder, so I can do small amounts at a time to make sure it all gets eaten.

We are using Hikari Bio Pure mysis shrimp, it was what was recommended at a dosage of 1/4 cube each day as per the LFS.

should we feed them again since probably only half was eaten ?

It all depends on how much they eat. I usually thaw out a full cube for my two clowns and firefish. I usually spot feed a few random corals too. I'll feed them a little bit at a time until I can tell they are full. I'll wait a couple of hours and then feed them a little more if there is any left. The feeding all depends on how hungry they are and how much they'll eat.
