    Hi all,

I debated if I should put this thread in the "ID this" forum, but since my thread is laced with multiple newbie questions, I decided to place it here.

I have a one week old 10 gallon, with everything taken from ocean (however the damsel, 2 snails, and hermit crab are from the LFS).

I went snorkeling this weekend to try to find some good natural live rock (from a non protected area). I found some rocks with stuff growing on them, so I thought I would put them in my tank.

I have five questions about these rocks:

[1] As the image show, there are these small plant like tubes that cover the rocks. Are these good? Does anyone know what they are I assumed they might be good natural filters for my tank.

[2] the rocks are covered with tiny little plants that from a distance almost look like cobwebs covered with dust. They swish around quite a bit in the current. Any ideas, are they good?

[3] Looking at the images, are these rocks simply covered with algae. Is this not good?

[4] Last night I was looking at the new rock, and all of a sudden I saw a little insect thing shoot across the side of new rock and then down into a hiding place. It was about a half an inch. It was dark. And looked like a cross between a cockroach and a squid. Sorry I have no pic, and I have not seen him since. Any ideas? Is this trouble?

[5] The new rocks have added quite a lot of bio debris on the bottom of the tank. I only have one small hermit crab and two little snails, do you suggest a bigger clean up crew? And if so, what type?

personally i wouldnt trust the rock to be completely safe. you could potentially be introducing parasites or some other unwanted critters to your system.

but if you do choose to keep you should up the cleaner crew.cleaner shrimp few more hermits bunch of little snails. definatley keep an eye out. especially at night when tank light are out. get out your flashlight and start lookin.

cleaner crew is good but you have to remember that on a ten gallon the more things you have the higher the bioload I would defintialy get a pepermint shrimp though because if you have any other hitch hickers like an aptasia they will eat them up.
