hi peeps i have a few questions about my soft coral. at the time of buying this baby i had forgotten the name of it does anyone know its name. also half of it is seeming very nice indeed but the other half is pretty much just out a little bit now this has happened three days ago now. the coral seems to be spreading onto another rock ad sticking to it. and my last question is can i move this rock now its adhering to anoter rock or will this damage it

    thanks fellow reefers :)

it looks like some type of star polyp...they come in a lot of different colors and shapes....my favorite that i have is a green star polyp thats hair thin...the tubes are really tiny...most of the ones i see are thick stalks

    Hi Rosewell

I think thats Anthelia you have there
if I am right you can break it and move the rock and the colony on the rock will be fine, and the bits left behind will also be fine and you will have 2 colonies

Be aware that under good water quality conditions , this coral can be evasive and start to dominate the whole tank and will require pruning

I'm not sure either. If it's anthelia sp, you'll have 8 fingers on each hand, with 24 tiny cross-member whisps on each finger.

looks more like a type of xenia than anthelia to me... but could be either from what I can tell.

anthelia usually has longer tentacles on it than that... it's nice looking though.

you can move it. you can cut it where it's connecting or whatever. shouldn't matter a bit.

I have some of that, didn't know what it was called..
I really like it, mine is really starting to grow/spread.. Just stick a rock against it, it'll spread, move the rock.. and you have more..
I "may" let it cover all the liverock in the left side of my tank..
Once started good, that stuff can really spread..
I even have a bunch on my sand thats growing good.. Cool stuff..

I done some searches and if what he has is the same as mine, which I belive it is..
It's not Anthelia Waving Hand Coral. I have some of that also and they don't look like one another..?? Looks like no other xenia, that I have.. But there are so many.
Mine looks more like small palm trees.. Maybe some more searches will turn up more.. Looks like it could be in the xenia family, But not the waving hand ..

Looks to me like some clove or daisy polyps of a brown coloration.
Mine also spread like yours are doing in the pic. Dis-regard coloration.
