Hi I am new to this site and I did read a old thread about this filter but I was wondering if anyone had some other information or person opp. on this filter. I know Eheim make great filters but I have been doing some research and have herd that HOB skimmer may have a problem and the most recent one I was looking at is this filter turning into a nitrate factory.

Will a Eheim 2227 Wet Dry full of rubble Live Rock work? or will it increase Nitrate levels in reef aquarium? - Yahoo! Answers
there a link of the questions asked
anyone ever tried putting live rock rubble in the filter media trays?

I think I remember reading a post about that somewhere...have you tried a search? Also I know Bogie runs a HOB skimmer and a Fluval cannister filter, but he has stated he would rather have a sump, which is really the way to go if you have the space...You could PM him

Those are great canister filters... personally I would not put live rock rubble in it... for surface area it's hard to beat the stock eheim stuff.

All aquariums are nitrate factories not the filtration methoed , Nitrates are a given if the system is working properly . You feed the fish ? you get NO3 fish make waste you get NO3's Fish through normal living functions you get NO3's NO3 are a must and much needed to maintain a tank you have to deal with them on their level . The tank that does not manufacture Nitrates is nothing fish can be kept in let alone corals .
