I tested the water about 8:00 this am, so I am assuming the Cal was high because it had only been about 6 hours since my husband put in some Purple Up. And, the Alk at 300...I followed the directions on the test kit...you know the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, lol and it came out to be 300. On that link that Mission gave it said: Alkalinity2.5-4 meq/L
7-11 dKH
125-200 ppm CaCO3 equivalents2.5 meq/L
7 dKH
125 ppm CaCO3 equivalents
I wanna say the dKH was 13, then I divided and times by something to get the 300. I am guessing this is the conversion for CaCO3 according to the above chart. So, I'm like a 100 over the norm. But, I am wondering too, if this was from the Purple Up. Someone told my husband about this "magical" stuff called Purple Up when we first got into the hobby a few years ago. It will grow the most wonderful coraline algae, blah..blah..blah. Anyway, he swears by it, and I've seen tanks with a lot more coraline then we have. I've tried to get him to stop using it, but pick your battles!! Stuff isn't dying so it's not worth fighting. :p

DKH should be around 8-12, I sometimes have mine at 13 and 14, but I try to strive for 12. Im not sure what your doing with all that math, but none of my tests is that complicated.

BTW, If I where in your shoes, I wouldnt use Purple-up, my tank is almost all coraline and I have never used that stuff. Just keep your Cal between 400-450 and you will see the difference. Not to mention the Iodine that stuff has, I hope your testing for Iodine. If you want to see how much Iodine that stuff has, look at the ingredients; sometimes it tells you exactly how much and sometimes you have to see where on the list of ingredients it is placed.
