Im probably goin to add more live rock to my tank but I would like to get around the curing it part I have a 40gal reef-in-progress and I have roughly 30 pounds I am thinking about 30 more pounds but I dont want to get it from my local fish store because they charges 10 buck a pound and it doesn't look very good as far a coralline algae and other stuff goes. Any suggestions??

I would go with dry rock from Marco Rocks, Reef Cleaners or Bulk Reef Supply so you don't start another cycle.

    dry rock......

craiglist is a bad idea for the only reason that you dont know what type of pest you will be bringing into your tank...

safest and smartest way was stated above with dry rock! :)

    +1 on adding base rock

depending on what stage the tank was at
    if it was relatively new
I might even be tempted to re arrange the live rock I had in order to put new dry rock in below my existing live rock
as that would be more aesthetically pleasing to me, for the time it takes the new dry rock to colour up and match the live rock already there

My tank has been set up for almost 2 years, oh by the way I only have one blue leg (I think) left and a Astreus snail. But I want to have something other than base rock, something that can grow corals, sponges ect. w/out having to buy them.

    Hi Jonreefy

you may get lucky with some live rock and find the odd Button polyps, shrooms etc
but you may get unlucky and end up with pest nems and algaes etc
or you may just end up with coralline
you do get bacteria in all cases and thats what we want mainly from the rock

you never know with live rock , its a gamble

but if you buy live rock , expecting it to grow into a coral garden, without the need to purchase additional corals
I think you will be in for a very long and almost certainly dissapointing wait

The only corals I have seen on live rock are cheap button polyps, and the sponges are not all that desirable looking.

IMO you will save a lot of money if you buy dry rock from any of the previously mentioned sites, and buy a few cheap corals. You will get better corals without getting all the bad hitch hikers.

Bad hitch hikers are much more common than good ones.
