I have a fluval edge 12g I want to use for a small coral tank. I didn't feel up to doing any heavy mods other than lighting which I am currently doing.

Question is should I just keep the hob filter it came with and just do a weekly water change of 2-4g a week depending on what the nitrate reading was. Our try a canister filter to I have heard they can become nitrate factories if not maintained.

I plan on doing either a goby with a shrimp or just a single Japanese red fin wasp i know it says they need a min of 20g but I have seen and heard of people keeping them in 10-15g with frequent water changes.
And some simple coral and some macro algae.

IMHO, Stay with the HOB, maybe some chaeto in it also if possible? Will you use a hob skimmer? They make small ones I hear. The small frequent WC's may work.

It can and is done, but I'd steer clear of the cannisters

No there isn't enough room for a hob skimmer unless I get rid of the filter our find a all in one that can fit in a space of like 4 by 7 inches
The filter out comes with its 4 by 5

Ok well I ordered. So no canister filter once I have it and my lights ready I will show off the tank and figure out what coral I want
