Im at three weeks from setup. cycled with 2 dead shrimp, ammonia rose a little bit, but not much. .17 meg/l was about the highest I saw. took water to LFS suspecting faulty test about a week later, they said I zero ammonia (and the shrimp were basically disintegrated). So I added 2 damsels. Previously, I had all my dead rock in a rubbermaid with pump/water changes on the back porch for around 9 months. Im sure some bacteria established itself during that time period as there was plenty of die off. I added that and some LR to the tank a few weeks ago. Fish are fine and very aggressive. Could I have cycled that quick? I have some powdery green brown algea growing in spots everywhere. I have some neon green shoots about 1/16" on a rock sprouting. So is this a diatom bloom? then a cyano bloom? or gha?

Yes, quick cycle probably because of your DR & LR in the vat giving it a jumpstart on your "bug" population. Thats actually the best way. Add a light to the vat & a heater with a pinch of food here & there and thats the best!!
Anyway, just keep taking params maybe think of a CUC.....Go Slow!!

yeah the crew is planned for next week. skimmer is this week. I have fed pretty heavy, shrimp bits and pellets. once I start adding stuff the yellowtail damsels get moved.

I'd like to see some pics of the neon green shoots. It sounds like neomeris sp. Some ppl consider it a nuisance macro algae but I'd like to have some in my DT.

Well thanks for posting the pic. The stuff is to young to tell what it is even with the pic blown up and zoomed. It's definately not neomeris though. You weren't kidding about it being bright green. LOL
