Tail rot does not happen that fast. If it wasnt like that this morning and it is like that today something else happened. Have you noticed one of his tankmates nipping at him? Is he otherwise healthy? eating?

Yes he is eating but swimming a little bit lethargic. He was the bigger of the 2 clowns and they are the only fish in system at present. Did notice small one nip once temp is still high 82f turning powerhead off for the day did not help. Is this temp too hot

"...One of my clown fish's tail appears to be rotting!!! ..."

"One of.." is probably the problem. Your clowns are likely fighting for dominance...the weaker one must submit (and become the male) or die.

Sorry, but all too often the weaker one does not think it worth it (being the man in the family). :-/

All of our clown pairs have been thru it. --- once submitting & doing the male clown "shimmy" ("I give up dance")- he will recover quite quickly and the two of them will be friends for life.

    Help

Are there any powerheads or pumps in the tank that could have sucked in his tail, I agree that something that tramatic would take several days to manifest. If you have a powerhead or pump, he may have gotten his tail sucked in and chewed up.:-[

Are you adding iodine to your tank!? Iodine is an great antibacterial among other things! I really do not think the Clown got sucked into the powerhead because if it did the clown would have succumbed to the strong vacuum affect produced by the powerhead and would have gotten killed by the force as it couldn't compete with the force of the water, IMO!
You could try an iodine dip to ward off infection if that is indeed the culprit!
    Good luck!

Hi- I'm just putting the first fish into my new tank. I have a bluefin damsel and then introduced two clownfish. One of the clownfish is thriving, but the second one appeared to get "bullied" by both the clown and the bluefin. After a few days hiding among the rocks, his tail was essentially gone. I think the other fish were responsible. I thought there was little hope for his survival and flushed him. I'm hoping someone will sugggest a safe way to introduce a second clown, or suggest what fish might do well with the pair I have. Good luck with your clown. I hope he survives.

I have read that once a clown is established by itself it is impossible to introduce another
