    Hi guys,

I have had a new tank built with an overflow and two returns. My problem is my returns are supposed to be fitted with a 1/2' bulkhead and unfortunately my aquarium builder drilled 1 1/4" inch holes rather than the standard 1 1/8" holes to fit a 1/2" bulkhead. I was wondering if the 1/2" bulkhead will still fit in this 1 1/4" hole or if the extra 1/8" will really make that much difference causing the 1/2" bulkhead not to fit. Any advice you guy have will be much appreciated.

I thought that was the size for a 3/4" bulkhead?

it depends on the size of the bulk heads rubber gaskets for the sealing capabilitys. i have a 1 1/4inch hole with a 1 inch bulk head and it works fine, just means i can up grade to a 1 1/4 inch bulk head if i want to in the future. but its easier and cheaper for me to use standard 1 inch fittings. put the bulk head against it and see it the gasket will cover the hole other wise you will need new bulk heads

problem is i live in the caribbean. Those bulkheads are hard to find here so i will have to order it down. The only place that had 1/2 inch bulkheads that would fit a 1 1/4 inch hole was aquacave and they don't allow international shipping which kinda sucks. Basically to "offer it up" on the tank i will have to wait 2 weeks. Was trying to avoid this. I would think the gasket would be greater than a 1 1/4 inch but have no idea. I guess is hould ask this question to the place im ordering from maybe...

If the fit is sloppy get an O Ring which will slip over the bulkhead and fill the gap between it and the glass so it cannot shift. Kind of like a bushing to fill the annular space. Works great.
