Quick, probably stupid question...

    If i were to go to giant eagle or something, which type of shrimp or whatever should i use to cycle my tank? ive tried everything and nothings causing a spike so im going down the shrimp route. Any suggestions? Probably a really stupid question but i just have no idea haha

    I think u can use any clean uncooked shrimp. just make sure there aren't any additives or preservatives.

    there are no dumb questions cira. a raw uncooked shrimp will do it for you.

    I just used some frozen mysis and food pellets for my cycle, I never saw an ammonia spike either, eventually I got some nitrites, and the nitrates were very obvious. As long as the food is in there decaying be assured it's producing ammonia but the bacteria may be consuming it well/fast enough that it won't register on a kit.

    I've always used pellets & dried krill. If I diddn't get a spike, I waited a couple of days and added more than the last time, etc.

    I went to my local Giant grocery store seafood dept and got 3 raw jumbo gulf shrimp..... took the ammonia about 12 hours to spike off the scale

    i took about 10 cubes of frozen food and just threw them in there. my tank is 150g. got the spike rather quick.
