So I am contemplating getting a new tank mate this week. I'm setting up my quarantine 20G as we speak... I have a couple questions about a quarantine regime... Usually I just match parameters with my DT, but I was thinking about doing the following. Not sure if it would take the quarantine time down to a couple weeks instead of 4-6 like usual, but tell me what you think.

    1. FW dip for 3-5 minutes.
    2. Quarantine in 20G with hyposalinity for ?#? weeks. (How long does hypo take to get rid of possible ich?)
    3. Drip acclimate to tank conditions and put in tank.

    - Basically just trying to combat diseases before they present themselves. The only real change is doing hypo before it becomes necessary. Will this take down the time needed for quarantine? Also, one of my friends at the LFS does this coupled with a special anti-parasite food mixed in with the daily feedings. I'm thinking this covers most of the bases, but wanted to see what you all thought. My friend only quarantines for 2 weeks with this treatment.

Also, 1 more random question... for FW dip (i've never done it) do you need to drip accimilate back to tank conditions? Or if Ph and temp is good, can you just move the fish from tank to tank?

    Thanks!

Using hypo-salinity treatment will not decrease the time it takes to properly quarantine the fish. It is still 4 weeks of no symptoms, followed by 1-2 weeks of slowly raising the salinity of the tank to match the display tank's salinity.
