Ya, it is a touchy subject on here and in the SW world period on the whole cycle thing. I buy into Tangsters theory and followed it exept for the fact that I added some lr, which I dread dearly now. Should have went with all base, dead rock. Then I would know EVERYTHING that touched my tank. I didn't test but once for 8 weeks. I still haven't added any fish to my tank, just some snails and a emerald crab. I am going to add another fish soon, I can't wait. I think that the point missed more than anything else when people talk about a cycle is the fact that you are starting your own ecosystem from scratch. It is really a very, very amazing thing. So when you cycle yes, that is an important part, but you cannot forget about the biological filter and the maturity and ability for your system to sustain life sucessfully. And I don't think anyone can argue with the fact that time is the only thing that will give you a mature ecosystem with a mature, solid biological filter. Wow this started as a 2 sentence response!! Hope I helped out in some small way...

I used fully cured l/r , normal sand ,in my tank and added a damsel on about week 2 he got the cycle moveing along and within 6/7 weeks it had finished all params were at 0ppm, since i have added another neon damsel a midas blenny & a chalk gobie + inverts and all params are super for the last 3 weeks, nitrates stay at a constant 10ppm, tank is a little over 8 weeks old but i understand the patience needed in things like anemones, where i will have to wait for at least another 4 months, :-( hope this helps
