I just received my replacement cone for my G2 skimmer. I have taken everything out of my sump and I am not seeing how to remove the broken cone that I am replacing so that I can put it the new one. I did not want to break it again. I looks similar to the cup design with the notches but it did not budge when I tried to twist it. Thanks for any help.

Are you talking about the piece thats in between the skimmer body and the collection cup? Have you had the skimmer since it was new , or did you buy it used? I know a lot of people (myself included) will silicone that cone piece to the skimmer body to prevent any leaking. It should just be a quarter turn and pop off no problem if it was left alone, but if it was sealed to the body your in for a real treat trying to remove it.

Try putting it on the floor, and using your feet to hold it in place while you twist on the cone piece, it could just be some gunk built up in that seem.

It should twist off like all the other pieces. Salt creep and what not have possibly stiffened it up quite a bit. You could try soaking it in a hot water/vinegar solution to help break it free.

Thanks guys. I guess it was just salt creep b/c I let the hot water run over it a grabbed in a different place and it popped right out.
