I am going out of town from this afternoon and wont be back until Sunday. I was wondering with water evaporation and everything if I should just run T5s instead of MH and T5 so it will not evaporate so much. Also, everything should be ok as far as feeding right?

It would help to know what you've got in your tank (fish and corals).

WOW, that's a really big tank for manual top offs!

I recently took off for a week and I do manual top offs too. I had to get someone to come over daily and do it.

When I take off for 3 days or less, I just turn off the skimmer and that cuts my evaporation down to almost half, and don't worry about it.

It's also humid where I'm at, so I'm not seeing a lot of evaporation at the moment.

I have a mark in my sump that I fill to and I usually just fill to that mark like every-other day. Ive got a container that my RO/DI water goes into and I have a pump attached that I just feed through a hose into the sump. When I go out of town I usually just put a little extra in for evaporation. I guess this is not what everyone else does:confused:

Livestock - hammer coral, condi nem, polyps, bubble coral, hippo, 2 clowns, six line, dragon goby, yellow tang

Not to hijack, same topic though. I am going out of town in a few weeks.. not so much worried about water but more so the lights. Should I buy a cheap timer to power them on and off automatically? I have corals, nem, and various fish.
I wlll be gone 5 days.

cdeboard -- Definitely get a timer it makes lights consistent instead of just manually turning them on in the morning and night

Could also cut down on your lighting period a bit while you're away.

Have you tested your salinity when you do this? It's not something I would do but what works for some doesn't work for others so to each his own I say. :)

As for lights, I'm pretty sure those inverts can go a few days w/o lights and the fish can definitely go w/o feeding while you're gone. I would feed them a little extra before you go though.
