What's a dinoflagellate bloom?

 

Snot algae bloom. You don't want it....trust me. It's called snot algae because that's what it looks and feels like.

Stressed corals expel their zooxanthellae (ie. partially bleach). Since the zoxanthellae drop their flagella while they are inside the coral, they can't just swim right back into the coral. They just fall and lay there and reproduce, and reproduce, and reproduce.
