So here is an update. Me and and my teacher got together and basically ordered 80lbs of fiji sand, 60lbs of base rock, a heater, Carbon, filters, salt, 3 koralia's Evolutions and a 4 stage RO/DI filter. :p

now we wait for them to arrive!! So exited to begin this build.

Sounds awesome, so if ya HAVE to be responsible! Experiment with all versions of LED's and write a paper about that! Bridgelux, Cree, etc! Congrats on getting the ball rolling!

I think this is a good idea. If you are trying to keep recurring costs low, utilizing natural filtration to cut down on GFO, carbon, and hardware costs (like reactors and skimmers) would be worth considering.

That would make for an interesting paper. ^

For the build, We have received most of the stuff I ordered. I'm still waiting on the rocks.
We just got off for vacations so the actual build will start some where around June.

Right now is brain storming and ordering stuff LOL
I was thinking on buying a Vortech Wave maker. Which one do you guys think should be the best for this tank?

    Cool.
    1. I'm going to subscribe.
    2. What are the dimenstions of that tank? You sure it's a 50? Looks a bit small.
    3. The type of lights you get will ultimately dictate what you can grow, so I would assume you may want to figure that out before you get too concerned with the vortec wave makers.
    4. I think an algae filter/ algae scrubber build would be an excellent, simple, cost efficient, fun, educational and effective way to control nitrates!
    5. Keep us updated, good luck! (will the tank be "torn down" when the class is over?)

IMO a fuge would be nice, some cheato and black mangroves(these take out more nutrients then the red ones).
p.s. If your willing to spend $80 on a female flame wrasse, I recommend doing that ;) lol
