    The 5th pic is an Aiptasia, get rid of it or it will spread like a weed. Luna

    So how do I "get rid" of it? Just go in with tweezers and pull it out or something? Is there a special way you'd recommend? As far as we can see he is the only one of his kind in the tank.

    There are many ways to remove it, some work and some dont, at least for me. The best product that has worked for me are;
    1. Peppermint Shrimps

    Thanks for the response!! =)

    I think that I will have to run down to the LFS this weekend and pick me up a bottle of that, not quite sure the tank is ready for shrimp yet (3rd week in the cycling process)....What do you think?... Anyhows, I hope it's not too late, Mike decided to try to remove it by pulling it off of the branch ::)... but from reading what that Red sea Aiptasa-X does, seems to be good, and if it pops up again we will have something to make it implode!

    I would leave the skimmer running during the cycling phase, just refrain from doing water changes til the cycling process has completed. More benefits from running a skimmer than without!
    By the way guys, welcome to 3reef!
    Best of luck to you both and that of your future inhabitants!

    I had my skimmer on from the start also. I got coraline algae a month into cycling, always have ran my skimmers from the start of a cycle with no ill effects.

    What ever you do, dont pull on them or try to kill them with anything. Their defense mechanism(sp) is to "spit" out their babies if they feel threaten. Luna

    Like I said, this is a hot topic! Either way will work, I just did my research and decided against it. Check out Otty's tank, he didn't run a skimmer till month 4-5 and his tank looks great. But then again, Jason's tank is awesome too and he took the other approach. OK I guess all I did in this post is reiterate that either method will work! Just depends on which school of thought you go with.
