BTW, does anyone know the normal lifespan of a cleaner? Is there an expected life span?

So, you dosed iodine on the same day that your shrimp died?

If that was something different that occurred that day, you might look into it. Iodine is something that must be dosed carefully.

If at all. I never add iodine to my systems. It's too easy to overdose and if you're doing regular water changes, all the iodine that your system needs is in your salt mix.

    Yup, agreed.

I'll probably stop dosing at all as soon as I switch from Instant Ocean to Reef Crystals. Not that it matters that much on iodine content, but that's all the fewer maintenance supplements I'll need to add in that case.

I didnt dose before he died.
And its not really that i am dosing just iodine. I switched my element additive to one that also contains traces of iodine, after he passed.

What do you have in your tank that requires element dosing? I have a 180 gallon full reef tank that, before the bryopsis outbreak, was full of stony corals and I didn't dose anything more than calcium and buffer and strontium (albeit very rarely).

I am sorry for your loss. My cleaner shrimp goes nuts when I feed. There's really no way to keep him away from the food. He even fights Nemo for it ( yup, I'm a fan of the movie too!). I named mine Striper though. He tears throught the water upside-down to make sure he gets to the food first.;D I have lost some Peppermint shrimp in tha past though for no apparent reason, so I know the frustration. Best of luck for the future!

You'll like the switch to Reef Crystals I think. I liked the way it mixed much, much better than regular IO.

    One to two years.

    Packleader.......Sorry for the loss man.......K+

i have 2 cleaners in my tank (biocube 29) and have never had to target feed. they will eat whatever i put in the tank. like someone said in a previous post they will walk on the top of the water and grab waterever they can. i have had them in the tank for close to a year now. they molt every few weeks. anyone know the life span of these guys? i was thinking of adding another, oh and they are both always loaded with eggs!
