I am so confused. I am going to by a ro-di system but i am seeing such cost variances between them. Could someone tell me what they think of this system.

    6 stage 100GPD RO+(2X)DI Reverse Osmosis Water Filter - eBay (item 110277010466 end time Sep-03-08 21:30:12 PDT)

It is a GREAT price. Person seems to have good feedback. I purchased a whirlpool ro system from lowes years ago and wasnt happy with it , and it cost $165 when I got it. This one above just seems like a great deal.

    Let me know please....

Steer clear of RO/DI units with horizontal DI chambers. They're of lesser quality. Do your best not to skimp in this hobby and buy the very best you can afford always. Bite the bullet and pay the $150 to get a decent unit. Buckeye Field Supply is one reputable manufacturer. Another is Air Water Ice.com. Either one is top quality and you won't be sorry.

Welcome to 3Reef, and good luck!

I'll second what ReefSparky said. Don't skimp on equipment, as you'll just regret it later. As much as nobody wants to overpay for something, underpaying is just as bad. Just look at a quality unit from AirWaterIce or Buckeye Filed supply, and you'll see how flimsy that thing looks. Also, the ones from the above-mentioned websites work with normal 50psi pressure (the most common for homes), while that one (I believe) needs 65 psi. You'll either need a booster pump (about $85) or suffer with below-average performance (a ton of wasted water and lower than expected rejection rating).

I bought this unit from Marine Depot, it was a little expensive, but as stated below, you get what you pay for.

In addition, I have found out in the past that those real cheap items turn out to be a P.I.T.A.. When you try to get some technical questions answered or replacement parts, they are nowhere to be found. But when you get your items from "real" and a name brand, you get better service. Luna

I agree with Sparky, Luna, and Bogie from another thread. The Horizontal DI are not the way you want to go. Because of the importance of water quality, the RO unit was the first thing I bought. Even before the tank. This hobby gives absolute credence to the saying "pay me now or pay me later."
