So, from the start of my tank my readings were:

    dKH 7
    Ph- 8.4
    Ca- 450
    PH 8.4
    Mg 1280.

Today I used the dKH calculator for dosing with baking soda and it said to use 3 tbs for 45 gallons of water to raise to 10 dKh. I did mix the baking soda with R/O water. I only had 2 tbs of baking soda and I used 3/4 of it so far and it raised my water to:

    dKh- 10
    Ph- 8
    Ca- 400
    Mg- ???

    Is this okay?

Why did a smaller dose raise my dKh so high?

    Thanks.

    Casey

How long did you wait between dosing and testing?

I mixed 2 tbs into 2 cups of water and i poured about 1/2 cup every 4 hours. The last time I dosed was about 3 hours ago and took the reading from my sump.

No. The calculator had both baking and no baking. I went with no baking because I didn't much effect on my Ph but as you can tell that didn't happen.

    Should I have baked? Why?

But I did not bake and it still dropped my Ph from 8.4 to 8

    Is that normal?
