Ok, Elos kits arrived today. Here's my parms:

    Specific Gravity: 1.025
    PH: 8.2
    Alk: 12 dKH
    Ca: 250
    Mg: 1400

I can't for the life of me get the Ca up. I've been adding Purple Up now for almost 2 weeks and Ca is still at 250. Should I add more than recommended? I also have some Kent liquid Ca, should I try that instead?

Was thinking my not being able to get Ca up was due to low Mg, but Mg looks good (surprisingly).

    Thanks!

Hate to be the one to tell you this but Purple up is not a Ca supplement. :-/ It is full of iodine so if your not testing for that I bet it is off the charts. Stop with the PU and get you some Kents Turbo Calcium. I use 1/2 cup of that stuff and I get 50 ppm increase out of 300g of water.

That Elos dHK test kit is the chit, isn't it???

I was wondering that myself but since I have never used that product, I thought nothing of it. Good call, no wonder his Cal is going nowhere.

Interesting...I knew Purple Up wasn't just a Ca supplement, but read the following on marine depot which caused me to think it was a Ca supplement with some extras: "It contains ionic calcium which immediately raises dissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water."

This would explain why my Ca levels went up when I was using the Kent liquid Ca and then went back down when I stopped and started using Purple Up.

Thanks once again everyone! Off to add some liquid Ca!

Roger will probably PM you with his source of 25lb bag of Ca Chl but for the time being use some kents, it's not that expensive and this little container will last you a while unless you have a 75g full of sps's
