After seeing the corals I got recently, my sister has asked to help her put a list together to make a reef tank so they know how much it will cost. I think I've finally got her hooked. :p This will be for a 10g tank. She wants soft corals like gsp, but also wants to be able to have a green birds nest.

At first, I thought 2 boost par30s would be nice. But a RapidLED kit would be less expensive, and I think better suited for this tank (and also a chance for me to try out some diy LEDs).

Which of these 3 kits would be best for her tank?[FONT=&quot] It is a standard 10g.

She wants to keep costs down, so I thought LEDs would be the best choice long-term. Each of these are within the $100-ish range.

The 12 plug and play will work nicely...

Do you think a fan is necessary, or not so much?

That's what I was leaning towards, Coastie. I wasn't sure, so that's why I asked.

Unfortunately, this build might not be happening until next year, when she moves to a new apt. :p

I don't have any experience in the DIY led game, but the biocube ones look like the best choices. Not sure fans are needed but they come in the kits anyway....

I'm sure the experts will chime in soon.

IMO...Fan is mandatory...either their kit or buy a CPU case fan and DC jack it..But its security you will want..
