What's up fam? I was just wondering if it was true that a raw shrimp in your tank during cycling speeds up the process? If so, do I just leave this shrimp in there or do I eventually take it out? And is 1 shrimp good enough for a 30 gal tank with about 60 lbs of live rock and 40 lbs of live sand? By the way is that too much live rock? It may actually be around 70 or 75 lbs. still plenty of swimming room though. By the way I'm on day 5 of my cycle. No fish, just LR and live sand...

since you have LIVE rock, then you don't really *need* to add anything for the cycle (like shrimp).

Dead shrimp is really more for kicking off the cycle. Live rock will serve the same purpose though.

You bought 60lbs of LR? Expensive. A lot of folks by a lot of base rock with just a little bit of LR. My point is if you have 60lbs of dry rock and not live rock, then you might want to consider the shrimp idea.

There is no such thing as "too much" rock in SW tanks. The more the better as far as keeping bio filtration... that being said, it comes down to space and aesthetics. If you like it, keep it. But I have a hard time picturing enough swimming room in a 30g with 75lbs or LR in it...

It depends too where you got the live rock from. If it is from a local existing aquarium, you could be almost cycled. If you had it shipped to you, then it will probably have a bunch of stuff on it die, which will provide the ammonia that the shrimp would provide otherwise.

+1 no such thing as too much lr

I actually bought a 26 lbs box from my LFS and got a lot more from a friend of mine who had some stored in a container with saltwater for quite sometime.
