I understand that. But is there an LED fixture that can match say a 450w MH? I know at the lower watts the leds are pretty much the same. But with the higher watt MH the ability to produce high par even deep in the tank isn't matched by LED's yet. I could be wrong as I haven't done a ton of research on LED's.

I don't know if anyone sells one that covers the same area, with the same intensity. However, you could certainly do so if you built one. There is no reason that a 450W LED fixture will necessarily not "match" a 450W metal halide. The key is what LEDs are you using, what halide, what area are you trying to cover. If your trying to cover a small area, you can probably do it with less watts than a halide, as, using optics, there is more potential to focus light better with LEDs. Overall, halides and LEDs produce similar output. The difference is how you focus the light. Halides are more of a brute force approach, whereas LEDs tend to be more tailored to a specific application. The tailoring gives them potential gains in efficiency, however, at the cost of more variables to consider.

Ahh I see what your saying now. Definitely have learned a lot about LED's in these threads.

Yea I still don't know enough about LED's, and without a PAR meter I probably shouldn't judge the 2, just wanted to post what my RBTA did thought it was pretty interesting how fast he took to the MH.
