im not sure about the differences in the prizm and the deluxe model. but the prizm has the 2 valves once you get it primed you switch the hose to the other valve to start the skimming. it sounds like the deluxe is similar. i would put the water at the collection cup until the breaking in part is done and all the seals are worked on a bit. then adjust it to where you get the best water/air flow.

it seems to be doing ok. deluxe just has a carbon holder for filtration and a cup the tube goes into so that it can skim better at surface.

Last night however for some reason it ran dry and stopped pumpping water in into itself and ran dry all night. Will this hurt the motor?

    Yikes!

It certainly might. If I were you, I'd check the impeller for wear and if it still works, thank your lucky stars!

    Hey New2,
If you have any trouble with that Skimmer just email them and tell them the impeller isnt working properly, most likely they'll send you another...I just got a impeller in the mail.Mine was incredibly loud and they sent me another. It's much better now.

ok. the deluxe prisim skimmer i have seems to ALWAYS need adjusting so far every other night i have come home from work and found the thing was dry and sucking air. one time i have found it to be flooded.. does the amount of water in the tank affect the water flow in skimmer? why am i constantly having to adjust the valve to keep the water flow going? have had the skimmer for almost 30 days now and all thing going wrong.

    Absolutely.

I have had all sorts of skimmers now.

General rule of thumb is if you have a solution for your evaporation (I.V. drip, float switch, etc) you don't have to adjust your skimmer much anymore.

Running dry should never happen though on a hang on the back skimmer, how low are you letting the water get?
