Much like a title heavyweight fight, many reefers battle bryopsis for what seems like an eternity- back and forth with each side trading punches until one finally lands a hay-maker in the 12th round and its all over.

I am happy to say mine was a bit more abrupt. I was at a point where ALL of my rocks had some bryopsis on them, with at least 50% being close to fully covered. It had covered numerous corals, which I had to try to save by manually removing the bryopsis on at least a weekly basis and I was ready to break down my tank.

I did a bunch of research and guess I had always known about elevating magnesium to above 1600 as a way to get rid of bryopsis, but never thought it would really work and if it did, it would be a long journey...boy was I wrong. After only 5 days (3 with the magnesium above 1600), my bryopsis is almost completely gone.

    Timeline of Days and Actions:
    1. 30% Water Change, Replaced GFO, Turn Off Lights for 48 Hour Blackout
    2. Raise Mag from 1440 to 1540
    3. Raise Mag from 1540 to 1640, Turn Lights Back On
    4. Nothing (away from home for the weekend)
    5. Nothing (away from home for the weekend)
    6. Come Back Home to a Tank Free of Bryopsis!

All I have to say is I am blown away and incredibly happy that its gone. Hopefully this will help others to succeed as quickly as I have. I may be able to find some pictures to post, but I didn't think to take before and after pics specifically for the purpose of posting to show the decline

What brand of Mag supplement are you using?

Congrats for seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

Kent Tech M- I've heard that it is the only brand that really works as the impurities in it are what helps stop the bryopsis from being able to properly photosynthesize.

Yes this is what I have heard for years as well. It's the only brand I have ever used.

I honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at my tank this morning while feeding my fish.

Here is a pic of my tank before it got BAD. I was too frustrated to take pics while it was any worse than this.

To give you a sense of what it was like just a week ago, take this picture and make a horizontal line with the top of my blue sponge- anything above that was 100% covered in bryopsis, in addition to what you see in the pic:

Glad to hear! I need to get on this. It is not bad yet, but getting there.

Note that it will kill your chaeto as well!! Better to pull it out before you increase mag if you can.

I actually haven't had a problem with my chaeto...if anything, its thriving! I will try to take some pics tonight of both the tank and sump, so you can see.

Also, I would recommend taking care of it sooner rather than later. I kept putting it off and I started to hate my tank because it looked so disgusting.

Really  Not sure why then, but when I dosed Tech-M to increase mag, my large ball of chaeto was dead within a day or two.

But good point; I have been putting it off.

Ca-BAM! Bryopsis gone! Still have a few isolated areas of GHA, but the bryopsis has disintegrated
