    ok, HI everyone...
i had to mention this , it just happened. u might throw up just like i did!!:sick:

so i was adding some mushroom polyps to my newly established tank, and i seen a bristle worm snugged in a empty snail shell.( i hope everyone knows what a bristle worm is). i took the shell out and put a few drops of fluke treatment into the shell to kill the worm(i hate them). it crawled out and curled into a ball. i threw it into a water bottle with a little water left in it; set the bottle on the table until i had finished adding the mush's. then was going to throw the bottle away.( for a visual i had a new bottle of water i had planned to drink later beside the worm bottle...see where this is going?)
after planting my mushrooms in a good place i reached for my drinking water... grabbed the wrong one, opened it...and took a drink. as the water was in my mouth there was a weird flavor...and a texture not that of water...:-X you can guess what happened after i realized what i did...
so after i had finished wiping my mouth, i remember hearing that bristle worms emit toxins from its bristles? is that true? because truth be told my throat feels thicker, having a trouble clearing my throat....

anyone hear of that or know its true?

Yeah they do have toxins. Now the question is how big was it. Bristle worms that are you know a couple, .5-2 inches, shouldn't have a worrying effect. Now granted, like you've experienced, will still get ya. See how taking a benadryl works for ya, might be having a little bit of an allergic reaction. However if it does get worse and you start having any trouble whatsoever breathing immediatley go to the ER. Some bristlworms can pack quite a wallop.

Oh that is horrible. I can't give you any medical advice since I've never heard of that one before. Usually its just a minor sting on your hand. Not sure how your body will react to this. Take care and seek help if you have trouble breathing.

Wow.. I have a similar story. My boss at my old job had the worse breath.. just rancid. I was talking to him, reached for my pop.. drank.. it was warm.. he liked warm pop. Took a split second to realize.. and involuntarily spewed the warm pop all over the counter at the store right in front of him. He was like "what happened?" I left the room gagging. Yuor situation .. way worse.. How you feelin?

Wow that is gross. I feel for you. I would definitly be paying attention to how I feel for the next few hours, possibly tell someone else that may be able to help in an emergency. But on the lighter side, maybe you could put a bristle worm in some tequila an market it as the next great tequila...... go ahead eat the worm.

Hey I have an update for ya. I tried looking at denaturing bristleworm venom. As I suspected this venom can be denatured by vinegar, just like jellyfish toxin can be. In short...do you like salt and vinegar chips? If that isn't an option you may want to look here. Animal Library: Invertebrates: Others: Worms . Look under the Amphinomidae family section. Hope this helps.

My friend didn't believe me that bristle worms hurt when you eat enough of them. I picked out a dozen or so from my tank for him to down. He regretted it.
