Id avoid getting a tang, They really should wait to go into a mature tank that has been settup at least 4-8 months. Because of their bioload add and their eating behaviors. It just helps in the long run.

Id suggest some clownfish... :) They are easy, Almost everyone wants a pair at some point... And they are a fish more suitable for not a fully established tank. If you look at a tang, I would stay away from the Acanthurus and Ctenochaetus tangs, ( Sohal, Achilles, Mimic Tang, Powder Blue, Powder brown, etc... and Bristle tooths such as koles, tomini and two spot or blue eyed koles etc...) They need the more established tank for grazing. Also Tangs should be in theory added more so towards the end, they are just to aggressive sometimes for new tank mates....

Think of what you want to stock the tank with, and Add them easiest/most peaceful to the hardest and most aggressive. Thats the best way to go. Or if a shy eater is on your list get that first so you can get it eating before adding an aggressive fish.

i was thinking about the same thing redgambit. i had a false percula in my 55 gal tank that i had a few years ago and he had an awesome personality and love to eat from my hand and be petted. so im really thinking about going with a clown first because of that. my clown was like a peace keeper too. i had a yellow tail damsel and a yellow tang that could not get along. the yellow tail was always aggressive toward the tang and the clown would always go chase the yellow tail away. really cool fish.

Tangs need good food supply granted. It isn't hard IMO.

On another hand, 5-7 Blue/Green Chromis would be a great start.

+1 on the chromis. They are good because by them schooling they bring out the shy fish/es as well. I bought 10 for my new setup but down to 8.

All at the same time is a must. You want them all from the same tank at the LFS to try to ensure they are all from the same school in the first place. I added 10 to a system that already had 2, 10 days later, I was back to the original 2. They picked off the new guys as they were established. So try and get the ones you want all at the same time. I have 5 in my tank, they don't school anymore though...
