So I decide to do things right and setup a QT. I seed it with sand from my DT, wait a month, all the parameters are fine. I add a clown fish. It doesn't eat for 4 days--dies. Buy a different clown fish from a different store. Eats right away for 4 days--wake up this morning--dead. Parameters:

    Amm - 0
    Nitrite - 0
    Nitrate - 10
    Salinity - 1.022
    Temp - 78

Not sure what the next move is, but seriously considering taking the QT down, and adding the next fish straight into the DT as I have no problems with the last fish I added.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Need more specifics on equipment you have on QT. I never take anything from the DT and put it in or on the QT.

Sounds very frustrating because you are trying to do the right thing, but having a QT to watch and treat in is really the purpose. If that parameters are in line and no ammonia spike then the fish dying in the QT is better than the DT JM2C.

I had a Penguin filter without carbon and a sponge filter going. While I'm glad they died in the QT and not the DT, I have only put two fish in the QT and both died in four days. My scissortail goby went straight into the DT 3 weeks ago and has not given me any trouble--one of the healthiest fish I've bought (this one from yet a different store).

If the water in the QT is fine, then it's not the QT killing the fish. It may just be a coincidence and that scissortil could have made it through QT as well.

Do you have any decor in the QT?

What is the salinity of your DT?

I have large PVC pipes, elbows, etc for decor in the QT.

The salinity of the DT is 1.022.

I never was a fan of QTs. Too much stress on the fish. They are caught and taken from the ocean (stress) then shipped (stress) then introduced to LFS tanks (stress) then you buy and transport (stress) then you QT (stress) and finally introduced to your display, more stress!

Simply add some Marine-Max by tropical Science the day prior to introducing the fish to the display.

I have added 3 fish to my DT w/out QT first just fine. I make sure to add a stress reliever first so it helps them through the process. All three are fine, fat and healthy. The only reason why I have a QT tank is if something seriously goes bad down the road.

Well my QT will be a nice hospital tank, so it's not a total waste. What kind of stress reliever do you use? And when do you add it?
