i agree i use a different brand of live bacteria. but always add it when adding a fish to my tank. or if i move rocks or stir the bottom up

    Also
all i have read about qt tanks is ... your not supposed to have sand in it. just pvc pipes for the fish to hide.

I just added a half a cup to seed it, not really a sand bottom.

This is the way I look at it. If QTing fish is good enough for Liveaquaria and public aquariums than there must be relevant scientific proof to it's effectiveness.

The only claims those other products have is by the manufacture, no research.

I no longer have a QT because I do not buy fish. It is an individuals choice to do the hard work and practice that goes into properly QT'ing fish effectively.

If a QT is set up right the stress to the fish should not lead to a healthy fishes demise.

I certainly would not argue over not quaranting, but as stated above it really needs to be set up right. Now that i set up a good qt i'm thinking gee that would make a good dt.

Seachem stress guard: Reduces stress from handling, transporting. Antiseptic for fish and promotes healing. I add half the dose before the fish goes in then the other half after.

That's one of the main points of the QT, a low stress environment to get the fish comfortable and eating. Do you think those fish would not have died in your DT? Deciding not to QT is just a matter of what risk you are willing to expose your fish to.

I risk it with my reef fish, but there are only four tiny fish in a 125. My bigger fish are too costly to risk introducing a non-QT'd fish.

What about oxygen in the qt? Don't fish need water that is oxygenated one way or another?

Yes you need a source of O2 weather power head or HOB filtration.Surface agitation is important as well.
