[IMG][IMG][IMG]This morning I woke up and my tank was really looking bad. There are brown spots on some my rock and in the sand. The fish are fine but I noticed that my hammerhead has little pieces of thread-like things coming out of it. What happened??

I have a good clean-up crew, but I could use a few more snails.

how old is your tank? The brown spots could just be algae. From the pic, your tank doesn't seem to look that bad, my rocks have all sorts of algae and colors all over them.

Looks like brown diatom algae. Looks like you are still in the cycling stage. Pretty normal, but, you have inhabitants. Can't get a good look at the hammer because of the picture. How long has your tank been up and running? FYI, if you hit enter after every picture, they will come up on thread in a vertical fashion.

The stringy stuff coming from your hammer could always just be 'poop'. Corals gotta go too!

Probably not, but just a thought! ( Haha I rhymed )

the tank is about 4 1/2 weeks old. The inhabitant are minimal. Like I said, decent clean up crew. If you guys are saying it's normal than that's good enough for me. I kind of thought that the rocks would start coloring soon. Just didn't know it would be so sudden (within 12-18 hours.) Zectra, you might be right (rhyme) The strings suddenly disappeared about an hour after I checked the first time. My parameters are good. Calcium didn't turn out at all when I tested. I just fed phyto last night

For a tank that young, I would say this is completely normal, I wouldn't worry about it that much

diatom bloom is usually the last stage of your initial cycle.
