REALLY STUPID microbubles!

    ok i have a very simple sump tank, not layers or waterfalls or anything, there is a protien skimmer in the box and i have a piece of sponge covering the return. i am getting microbubles like crazy and im not quite sure what to do about it.

    Is the skimmer new? If yes, it's normal and will go away after the system breaks in. The skimmer will have residual oils from manufacturing which cause these bubbles, but will go away after a couple weeks, assuming there are no other problems.
    The reason the sponges don't work well is because the sponge will trap the bubbles, and as those air bubbles get trapped and merge with other air bubbles, it will make its way into the impeller and into the tank. The only effective way to eliminate bubbles caused by turbulence is to create bubble traps to keep any bubbles from reaching the return pump.

    yea its new, thats good to know... my sump tank is entirely too small for any breaks so i think im sol there.

    browse to the pic on your hard drive and attach it.
