I just did it to mine! I bought a bunch of new rock, added that and moved around all the old stuff. It was fun! It's like a new tank :)

I have re-aquascaped several times. Water is usually cloudy for a little bit, but other than that, no real problems.

Only word of caution would be if you have a DSB. You don't want to disturb the sand. I am not an expert on them as I do not have one, but if you do, please do a little research on Deep Sand Beds.

Yup, I do it every few months as well whenever I get a new purchase or I decide to remove some for whatever reason.

I moved mine quite a bit until I was happy with it. Once you get corals though you're pretty much locked in.

I do not and this is why. There is a ton of detritus in the nooks and crannies in the rock. (I know someone is going to say not in mine, but well... they are wrong) When you get this nonsense stirred up into the water column, you will inevitably have some sort of ammonia spike. Now this may not last long and depending on the inhabitants of your tank, there may be no issue what so ever. I have an sps dominant tank so personally, with the sensativity of stoney corals I wouldn't risk it. This is just my .02 so take it for what it's worth.

my concern with this would be the fact that all of the corals inevitably attach to the rock

what do you do with everything ... zoas on certain sides of the rock, sps cemented in place ... the rock is less versatile with pieces stuck to it ... no ?

that's a great point too. Most of my sps are encrusted to my rock so if I wanted to rearrange my rock I would be detaching at minimum 2 or 3 corals from each rock in my tank. There's just no way to do it if your tank is very established.
