Anyone think there is any harm in moving around the live rock in an established tank? Right now I have all my rock set up in the midddle of the tank and I'd like to get it tward the back more to create more room up front in the tank.. I have a ton of coral- Move it or is it not worth the risks???

Me and my 2 salty pennies say.... go for it... But keep in mind i am not sure what all corals you may have that may get damaged... or may have grown to other rocks.. Unless you dont mind that they may get damaged...

On the other hand when you do move rocks a stuff there will be a slight chem spike... and cloudiness of the water... but time will clear that up....

Like i said in the begining...
Just my salt encrusted 2 cents....

    Best of Luck..!!

also i would think you wouldnt want to stir up your sand base either. dont want to release a bunch of nastys. but take your time and you should be okay.

i actually move my stuff around quite a bit, though i have my base rocks pretty well stuck where they are so i dont need to worry about mucking up my sand for a spike. theres no harm in moving the rocks stacked on top at all. if you have any territorial fish, they might be confused for a day or two. however, head the above warnings about corals. i just destroyed my monti cap today with a rockslide.

I move mine around every three or four months. I actually take my rock out, do a dip in some water I save from water changes, and then place it back in. An amazing amount of detrius comes off. I consider it routine tank mainenance.

Thanks! I'm just not sure what to do with all my Coral.. I gotta have 30-40 corals in my tank. When you move do you just put all your coral to the front or something?

I remove all of my coral and put in a section I know Im not gonna be moving around. If they have grown onto rock its goona tak a little thinking. Because 99% of the time your arent gonna get the rock to position again. So if its removable (great) if not you have a lotta finaggling to do.

I cant even count the times that Ive done restructuring to my rock. Been months now since ive even moved a rock. Thank God
