Reason for Upgrade

Figured I would have some fun. Starting a list of good reasons to upgrade....

1. Out of room.

List your good excuses that you have used to upgrade.

 

"The fish you want gets too big for this tank"

"It will look nice in the house?"

"Your fish isn't compatible with these other ones."

 

5. My tridacna gigas keeps growing and growing and growing.

 

That is a great one... I wish I had that problem. I can't seem to find one anywhere. Been looking for years.

 

"Oh shoot, i think it has a leak! Better be safe than sorry and just go ahead and get me a bigger and better built one!"

Since this is your thread... I've been researching this issue for a week now, and have determined a couple things. ALOT of people farm gigas clams for food, shell decor, and peral nuclei. One of the drawbacks is that farms have to place a certain percentage (large-ish) of farm raised clams back into the ocean to help restore populations, so the aquarium aquaculture would rather focus on smaller, less restrictive clams to keep costs down. The other farmers probably don't want the piles of paperwork and hassle to deal in the aquarium trade. Therefore no one sells gigas clams anymore.
I talk to someone from ORA and they said due to the amount of product they can fly out they focus on "smaller species" but the subtext makes me think there just isn't any demand for Gigas, at least not enough to make money with.
Now i have to have one JUST BECAUSE!

 

LOL.... I have done the same thing. Basically, the only time you can get one now is to have someone break down a massive tank that has been running for years.

The size restrictions seem to have scared people away from them. Can't blame them too much there.
