Reasons to buy a fish?  

Hello everyone! I just bumped into this site recently. This is a great site for marine addicts like myself. I like all marine animals but I am particularly fond of puffers, boxfishes, and wrasses. I usually base my decisions on buying a fish according to the following conditions in specific order:

1. Personality
2. Facial appearance
3. Eccentric or oddball looking
4. Body colorations

I currently have a Spiny Boxfish, Long Horned Cowfish, Dragon Wrasse, Red Tail Tamarin Wrasse(female phase), and a Red Coris Wrasse(adult phase). Personality wise, the Spiny Box is my favorite. Not only does he enjoy human contact, he will encourage it. For body colorations, the Tamarin Wrasse and the Adult Red Coris are stunning. What an incredible difference between the juvenile and adult Red Coris. I like the Cowfish and Dragon Wrasse for their oddball features.

So what do you base your decisions on before you buy that fish?

 

I'd say I go by 1,2 and 4 on your list in that order.

You have some great fish! The Tamarin Wrasse is on our 'expert fish' board. Maybe you have something to add there.

Thanks Matt. Glad to be here. Actually I could add a tip or 2 on maintaining a Tamarin Wrasse. They are beautiful fish. I'm hoping mine will change into the Psychedelic phase sometime in the future.
