why are the octopus recirculating skimmers rated for lower tank size than the cheaper non recirculating counterparts ? they have the same size reaction chamber? wouldnt the recirculation cause a longer reaction time makeing it more efficent? therefore handling a larger tank or am I just missing something?

    Thanks

    Are recirculating skimmers less efficient?

I have been wondering the same thing.

    Anyone have an idea?

From Euro-Reef RC discription at Marine Depot

"Recirculating skimmers can handle larger bio-loads depending on the flow through rates. Slower flow through rates offer longer dwell times and higher "per pass" extraction levels. Ratings for these skimmers are offered as a "Base +" rather than one "Ideal" aquarium size."
