I know the BRS reef calculator is a little liberal in the amounts you are supposed to use--so what is the general consensus for the amount of GFO and carbon to be used?

I use BRS GFO in a reactor and Marineland carbon in a media bag in the baffles of my sump.

GFO should be 10 grams or 1 level tablespoonfull per 10 gallons of system water full dose and 1/2 that amount to start with so you don't shock the system.
I can't say on carbon but I don't run much more than the GFO on it and change it frequently.
