It shouldn't be too difficult to add sand after the fact. Just pour it slowly through a PVC pipe. You can put it where you want it, without a big sandstorm.

the tank is not full yet, but i have however heard of putting the sand in a ziploc bag and placing the bag all the way down to the bottom of the tank and gently spreading it by slowly pouring it works with minimum clouding

another side not, how does everyone feel about sand sifting crabs to keep the sand turning over so the build up isnt so bad...reefs 2 go said they dont eat the organics that live in the sandbed as they are filter feeders, they just burrow in the sand

i dont trust crabs except maybe the emerald, i think one of the best sand sifters is a fighting conch. mine does wonders, even buries himself completely and i wont see him for days

they are reef safe eating film algae -- i think the difference between the two is, i never see my fighting conch on rocks, he prefers the sand bed even if i place him on a rock he will jump off and fall into the sand, its funny to watch. the queen conch can grow up to and larger than 10" but it's also edible so once it grew too large you could turn it into a stew for the family. i just know that the fighting conch is a monster when it comes to stirring the sand bad, haven't observed queen conchs, but they are reef safe
