A box of salt is $37. This is 200g worth of salt... If you think about it, filtration wise it is cheaper AND cleaner than HC GFO

    Just plain not feasible!!
First, you would have to do a full chemical analysis on the used water after you do whatever treatment, and then, based on the results, REMOVE all the excessive elements that build up from feeding the tank, (and I'm not talking about just a few basics) and then, you need to add the elements that are lacking, if any so that you end up with a proper balance of the trace elements.
For fish only, obviously some levels are not going to be a big deal being over or under normal, but we don't know exactly which ones MIGHT be detrimental to the LONG TERM health of our fish.

    FUN KILLER!!!!!!! lol jk

in reality you are probably right but at teh same time just ponder ehat a ATS does it technically filters the water and removes the bad stuff from it so you could try somthing like this in a larger scale and indeed do a mass chemical anilisas to balance the levels but it is not as cheep as salt and ro water new ;D

The energy required to boost the water from 0 psi to 60 psi far outweighs the benefit of recycling. RO was designed for desalination but it is a very expensive process and why you don't see that many water utilities going that route.

Besides, the water is not being wasted, it gets recycled and used over and over via the hydrologic cycle.
