I have growing on a small rock what I believe to be; Fauchea sp., a red plating type algae. It isn't hurting anything and I don't have it in direct contact with any of my large pieces of live rock. Any ideas, is it a pest? Is it just a benign part of my reef tank? The weird thing is, I have no idea where it came from. I have had my tank up for almost 9 months and last month it just appeared out of nowhere and started growing a small piece of rock in the tank. As always, thanks for your help.

    P.S. I know, I know, pics please.

    Hey Steve,

Thanks for the great links. It is 2nd picture, in the 4th row of the google link. the malegameto.jpg, I didn't copy the link, because it is about 3 lines long, but that is definitely it. Harmless? I like how it looks (right now that is).
