Sounds like Cyno Bacteria. Try reducing the time your lights are on, and increasing the flow in your tank.

Welcome to 3 reef! Cyano is not actually an algae but a bacteria. Does your tank have adequate flow? Is your tank exposed to any natural sunlight? How old is your tank? There are simple steps to take to get rid of this pest of a bacteria. Just need to know certain details first.

Welcome, I had some cyano in my fuge. Cut all the lights in the fuge for a couple of weeks and its all gone. Didnt seem to bother anything else.
