yes, this is the real scientific name [IMG]

anyway, Just noticed this in my 29gal. It is a red algae of some type, its NOT cyano, I know what cyano is. Its coming out of the cracks of some of my rocks. Its a darkish red. Its not soft, I tried to scrape it with the pipe cleaner from my aquac and it does not just brush off. Looks kinda branchy/rootish if that makes sense... Its pretty weird. Its on one rock more than the rest, but I also see it on my powerheads. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Have a name for it so I can research it? Sorry, I dont have pics

btw, I am totally guessing that this is some kind of algae, it has never been there before.

more than likely not gelidium.. from what I can see on the net, it grows up like a tree, mine spreads and doesnt really grow upwards.
MIGHT, be Anotrichium but I am almost sure its not. seems like it gets long arms and grows up too.. I wish I had a camera

I have the same stuff in my 55, looks a little like the Anotrichium but I Goggled that and its very rare so doubt thats it. The stuff growing in my tank is reddish / purple, when it dries theres a white skelaton left behind like its made of calcium.
