my question is whether it is actually bad for your tank. other than the fact that it infests your tank. does it do anything bad for the tank?

no actually its good for your tank, it absorbs fish waste and phosphates. its just unsightly.

algae is only bad if it covers the corals imparing there ability to photosynthesis, but i dont think rba does that

If I hear "red" and "bubble" I think cyanobacteria. I have never seen a red strain of valonia?

There's red bubble algae at one of my LFS's .. along with a horrible aptasia infestation, and giant green bubble algae... I swear if I didn't know better I'd think they were trying to culture the stuff.
