I need to treat for red bugs and have decided on using Interceptor. Can anyone share how they went about getting some. I don't have any dogs or cats so I don't have a vet. Also is it necessary to remove the filter sock during dosing? I read that the skimmer and other stuff need to be adjusted and what-not.

I got it from a vet. I went in with the instructions printed off of MelevesReef to show exactly what I was going to use it for. Not all vets will do it, but if you go in with full knowlege of what you are doing, they will be willing to at least talk to you. Know what you are doing. Dosages, exactly what are you treating, repeat doses...

As for the skimmer, clean it, empty it and disconnect your air supply. You want the skimmer running, but not actually skimming. I see no reason to disconnect a filter sock.

Alright, thanks.. I know I want the bigger mg. the one for 51-100lb. dogs. And know that will treat 400g. Just seems funny going into a vet's office and asking. ;D

So I had to call a couple of offices to find one that would work with me. The first office told me that I would need to make an appointment and bring in a sample. They said to break a piece of coral off with them on it or suck some up in a water sample so the vet could indentify the red bugs under a microscope.. GTFOH..... Second place I called said "sure" come on in and we'll either give you the pill or write you an RX. Thank god for down to earth people.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I had really tough time getting it. Vets would just blow me off as soon as they heard it was for corals. "Sorry we do not treat fish", no not fish corals. I never got the chance to speak with the actual vet just screeners first.

Good luck with the treatment. Easiest and most effective treatment I have ever done. Your acropora are going to love you for it.

I was able to get some through a vet who is a family friend; I don't have any other pets either.

As stated, some vets are willing to do it, but you have have to search to find them.

I will offer this, as possible leverage for a local vet of yours. This is recognized and offered as a service by exotic vet here in Phoenix, so perhaps this will hold some merit with a local of yours: Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital

Thanks for the suggestions. I found a vet that was able to sell me just the one pill I was asking for. Now it's time to dose and treat.

I dosed the Interceptor pill last night and within an hour all the little tiny shrimp that were in the tank were floating around. I knew they weren't going to make it, but at least I knew the pill was working. Can't wait to check out the corals once the lights come on.

Nice work. Remember to dose again, to rid yourself of the freshly hatched red bugs.

Oh, I forgot to mention - leaving your filter sock in during the treatment seems like a good idea. You want the dissolved Interceptor treatment to make contact with anything that may have 'bugs in or on it.
