Ok, I have had success with the lower anemones and did fine, My tank has been up and running for 2 years now, I have good filtration, refuge, skimmer, etc, have a good light cycle of about 9 hours, plenty of LR, and a 3inch sand bed. I talked to one of my sellers and he had one that a doctor had ordered for his office but backed out on and was selling it to whoever was interested in it for an incredibly cheap price of $115! I jumped on the deal immediatly becuase you just dont see that. He was selling it that cheap becuase the guy backed out of it and it will be sent to the sellers place in a week (not a week long delivery but is being sent over seas in a week and is already paid for and no cancelations on these guys) and he wasnt able to sell it to anyone because either A they had to small of a tank, B they were new tanks, C people were worried about fish, D Hard to take care of. So I asked how big it was and he said about 10inches across so I took it! It should arrive at my house withing 1-2 weeks depending on when he gets it in, isn't that crazy luck! And not to mention the gold torch coral I had paid for that I had him hold has sprouted 2 more heads so I basically get those 2 for free!

Only thing I am worried about is the Red Carpet Nem not making it in my tank or killing everything in my tank. Do you think with my tank it will be ok my params are extremely good and I have about 5W per Gallon going on right now and plan on getting something to dip my food that I feed it in. But at this price I am willing on taking a $115 loss to try, I did get a pretty good tax return this year. Oh and if I needed more wattage I would definatly buy another ballast for some actinics because I need something to make my corals pop.

depends if your lights are power compacts or t5 or halides..the watts per gallon is old school and not really used anymore..i have 10 watts per gallon and an lta directly under it with halide and t5s..

Nems, especially carpets need strong lighting and perfect conditions, hopefully a carpet expert can chime in, i have no experience in that nem, but i know they are the hardest to care for, but people say they have no problems with them..

and yeah that a good price and if it doesnt look like its gonna do well you can at least sell it and prolly make your money back if not more..

Yea, its what I planned on doin, I was going to put it in my tank and if it looked like it was going down hill then I could sell it to the LFS and make some money off of it cause I wouldn't want it to die because I did not have the right home for it (not saying I do or don't). As for the wattage it is under MH 14k Pheonix 250watt bulbs with a bit of leds running as well.

The trick here as mentioned is pristine water conditions, strong intense lights that reach deep into your tank as this nem will want to be down low in a not so strong current spot.

The real trick to keeping this animal happy is consistency, he will not fair well to swings in any parameters.

Yea, from what I have read on them, they are extemely fragile to swings which shouldnt happen seeing as my tank is pretty stable, only thing I would worry about is acclimation and shipping.

I understand. Many people don’t test their tank at various times of day to see swings, such as temp and PH in the evening vs. the day light. Water changes that are temperature matched etc.

Additionally I will suggest that you do not over-feed this animal. It’s capable of eating large pieces of food, but you should keep the piece about the size of its mouth. Feeding actually stresses the animal – over feeding can kill it.
